< ‘The Flash’ Season 3,...
maybe not all …
And now for something completely different on The Flash. Things have been pretty serious as of late, what with Savitar returning and #WestAllen taking what appeared to be a pretty big hit last week.
it doesn’t seem like the time for an episode that could be a lot of lighthearted fun, but that’s exactly what we’re getting anyway thanks to a musical crossover with Supergirl and a villain called the Music Meister. Turns out this guy has the ability to make people break into song and dance to the script he devises within his own little pocket reality.
That’s a pretty ingenious way to not only show off the skills that Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist honed during their time on Glee, but also to call upon the talents of other Arrowverse actors like Victor Garber and Jesse L. Martin. Expect to see other characters from Supergirl, The Flash and maybe even Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow sucked into the Music Meister’s scheme.
Here’s the official synopsis for “Duet,” courtesy of The CW:
Barry (Grant Gustin) and team are surprised when Mon-El (guest star Chris Wood) and Hank Henshaw (guest star David Harewood) arrive on their Earth carrying a comatose Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist) who was whammied by the Music Meister (guest star Darren Criss). Unable to wake her up, they turn to Team Flash to save her. However, the Music Meister surprises The Flash and puts him in a similar coma, one that Team Flash can’t cure. Kara and Barry wake up without their powers in an alternate reality where life is like a musical and the only way to escape is by following the script, complete with singing and dancing, to the end.
Don’t expect The Flash to skip out on its running subplots completely just because it’s a musical, as the writers have proven themselves adept at weaving threads from the overall arc into special episodes like this. That means Wally West could definitely have a scene or two focused on him, or Savitar could make another move toward the end of the hour.
But the focus, at least for this week, will be on singing and dancing, and Gustin and Benoit reportedly went all out. Don’t you dare miss “Duet” on Tuesday, March 21 at 8 p.m., and consider tuning in for Supergirl on Monday, March 20 at the same time to see how the crossover gets started.
